The Archetype – On the Laws of Space, Time, and Causality

All schools of natal astrology are obliged to declare what is the relationship existing between the individual, the world, and a higher creative force. One model to address this requirement is the so-called “Archetype”, the image of the12 signs of the Zodiac taken collectively as a unit.

The Archetype symbolically reflects an ideal for human behavior expressed in terms of the laws of space, time, and causality by furnishing an insight into the interrelationship existing between the macrocosm and the microcosm. It reveals the goals of life as well as an objective value system. An immediate consequence is to orient the person by providing an insight into their private world, the microcosm.

The Archetype demonstrates vividly the point that the goals of life are connected basically to only four houses, the 1st, 7th, 4th and 10th, the so-called angles. Specifically, the Archetype draws attention to the value of the angles in the person’s quest to cooperate with their partner to build up a shared future and home. The other eight intermediary houses serve the purpose of helping the goal of a particular angle to accommodate and adjust to the goals of the other three.

Living is the aim of life, and to live life is to mature not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually. For the practitioner of astrology, the value of the Archetype is to facilitate this end.

  • What do we mean by space and time? What do we mean by causality?

  • How can we visualize a person’s relationship to others in the world as well as their relationship to the past and the future?

  • How can the Archetype be used as a model to demonstrate the behavior of any sign?

  • Provides a foundation, a context when delineating and evaluating a natal chart.

  • The Archetype’s value when working with a client.

  • It’s an ideal model for human behavior irrespective of branch of astrology practiced.
